Introduction:-

Department of Ophthalmology was started in the year 1991 January by Dr. Saju Joseph after his vast experience at Aravind Eye Hospital Madurai, as Asst.Prof. It was at this Dept. that the first microsurgery at Malabar was done. Later Dr.Saju Joseph Performed the first eye Transplant Surgery in Malabar at Moulana Hospital.

The Dept. was one of the first in Kerala itself to start Keyhole Cataract Surgery (Phacoemulsification), Recently it has added to its fold, Lasik Laser Treatment, first in Malabar under the banner Super Vision Lasik Laser Centre

	Presented 30 papers in State, National and International Conferences
	Faculty for various symposia on cataract at State and National level
	Past Secretary and executive committee member of Kerala society of ophthalmic surgeons

Specialized training:-

Underwent Phaco Training at L.V.Prasad Eye Institute Hyderbad.

Has attented workshops on Cornea Transplantation, Glaucoma and squint surgeries.

Lasik Training at L.F Hospital, Angamally.

Refractive Surgery at LISBON Europe.

Research programme :-

· Microphaco and surgical correction of Keratoconus.

· LASER VISION CORRECTION - EVALUATION.

Achievement:-

· Presented more than 30 papers in state national conferences.

· Two papers in international conference.

· Regular faculty in state and outside for keyhole cataract surgery.

· Trainer in Keyhole Cataract Surgery (Phaco Emulsification).

· Past Secretary of Kerala Society of Ophthalmic Surgeons.
