The Pulmonology Department, first of the Speciality in Malappuram District, started functioning from 2000. Presently the Department has all the modern facilities needed for this Speciality, including a well equipped IRCU.

 The head of this department is Dr. Mohamed Muneef MD, DTCD (Chest).

I have completed my Graducation in 1995 and PG in 1999 from Calicut Medical College. Joined as Lecturer in the Dept. of Respiratory Medicine, Calicut Medical College and presently on leave. Took charge of the Pulmonology Dept. of this hospital from 2000 August onwards. I have got Speciality training in Intensive Respiratory Care and had done research work on Risk factors for Pulm. TB.

This department offers comprehensive medical care for the common
Respiratory illnesses with special interest in Bronchial asthma, COPD, Ca.lung, smoking cessation and Pulm. Rehabilitation. This Department is also having facilities for Sleep Study, for Various Sleep Disorders, Obstruct Sleep Apnia & Snoring.  

1. 6 Bed intansive care unit with modern mechanical ventilators including both non invasive & invasive ventilators.


2. Arterial blood gas analyser to closely monitor patients with respiratory failure.

3. Spirometry and Lung function studies.

4. Bronchoscopy - Rigid and fibre optic Diagnostic and therapeutic.

5. Pleural (Lung) biopsy, pleurodesis.

6. Allergy Testing and immunotherapy clinic.

7. Thoracoscopy.

8. Asthma clinic.

 

9. Sleep Lab.
 

Apart from the good care and healing offered to many patients with resp.illness, we are proved to achieve good results obtained in treating Critically ill Resp.patients, which includes, ARDS, COPD, Bronchial asthma and so on. Within the short span of time we have done 500 Bronchoscopies with good % of positive results. With the support of Doctors working around this area, this dept. has now established as a referral Centre for Respiratory diseases.
