   Introduction:-

 

The Dept.of Cardio Vascular and Thoracic Surgery was established at Moulana Hospital on January 18th 2005 signalling the dawn of a new era in cardiac surgery at Perintalmana and Mallapuram district. The department situated in the 3rd floor of the new block has two fully equipped state of the art operation theatres with a six bed intensive care unit with all modern facilities.This floor spans around 11,000 square feet also houses the Cardiology wing with its Cathlab where Percutaneous Coronary Interventions are also being done.

   Operation Theatre: -
 

It is a sterile environment with state of the art equipments .There is a mobile remote controlled operating table with Aestiva Anaesthesia machine and Sarns 8000 Heart Lung machine with hemotherm . OT lights are 2.3 lac lux in power. The equipment which monitors the hemodynamics of the patient has an LCD display with slave monitoring at the opposite end. The air conditioning is laminar flow with HEPA filter .

 

 

   CVTS ICU: -
 

Six bed ICU with a nurse patient ratio of 1:1. Each bed having independent wall outlets for 02 , air and Vacuum and independent monitoring facilities comparable to any other centre in India. All the staff in both ICU and Operation Theatre have vast experience in both peri operative and post operative Cardiac Care.

 

   Facilities: -
 

·        CABG  (Myocardial Revascularization)

Facilities for both ON PUMP and OFF PUMP (beating heart) Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) is available at the centre. Post operative monitoring of the patient with 5 lead ECG and ECHO for RWMA (Regional Motion Wall Abnormality) can also be performed at the ICU.

 

·        Valve Replacement Surgery:

 

The centre uses both tissue and mechanical valves for replacement of Mitral and Aortic and Tricuspid valves. Facilities for Double Valve Replacement (DVR) and Triple Valve Replacement exist. Valve Repairs are also undertaken .TEE is used for assessment of such repairs.

 

·        Septal Defect Closure:

Congenital holes in the septum of the heart like ASD (Atrial Septal Defect) and VSD (Ventricular Septal Defect) are closed here using either Glutaraldehyde treated Pericardial Patch  or Gortex patch.

·        Complex Congenital Heart Surgery:

        

        Complex heart disease like blue baby syndrome requiring Intra Cardiac Repair (ICR) can be done here.

 

·        Vascular and Thoracic Surgery:

Vascular Surgeries like repair of Aortic Aneurysms and femero popliteal bypass for PVD (peripheral Vascular Disease) are done here.

Thoracic surgeries like Lobectomy and pneumonectomy can also be done here.

·        Achievements:

During the period of 12 months time we have conducted more than 200  Heart Surgeries.
